The congregation began with a man who prayed, who accepted God's new ways for him when his personal dreams were shattered.

He prayed. He loved. He could not see pain and suffering around him without asking ‘What must I do?' ‘What must we do?' His name was Nicholas Joseph Minsart.

Two others understood. Two young girls ‘What must we do?' ‘When can we start?'

They began, others came. At his death a small group of consecrated sisters held on to this fire of love for God, compassion and mission together.

Their leader, Sister Claire, was just 26 years old. When the Church asked for missionaries for a new world, some of the group went, a mission of love always to be renewed in the passing years.

Sister Claire inspired them. They encouraged each other. The flame of love they carried is our heritage today.  Without prayer we cannot live. Without a burning heart of compassion we cannot understand. Without absolute faith, courage, love for each other in Christ, we cannot undertake and live our mission as Sisters of St. Mary.

Would you ask God in ardent prayer to give you that kind of love?

Would you ask God to light in you that kind of fire?

Would you want to know more about the Sisters of St. Mary?

Nicholas - Joseph Minsart

His heart burned with a desire to alleviate the suffering he witnessed.
